The energies of love exist full-blown within each human being. We have an incredible power, given to us at birth, that we must learn how to handle, and it is this power that has gotten the world into the state it is in. Singer says that when we understand our relationships and our changing world, we are free to assume the power that is given when the ego is developed, so that no other person has to act out parts of ourselves for us.
