In der medialen Kriegsberichterstattung des Zweiten Weltkriegs standen auch die herausragenden Militärführer der beteiligten Nationen im Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit: Bernard L. Montgomery, George S. Patton und Erwin Rommel wurden zu Medienstars ihrer Zeit. Alle drei Generäle wurden zu militärischen Helden stilisiert. Dabei handelte es sich nicht nur um bloße Propaganda: Kriegsberichterstatter und auch die betroffenen Militärs wirkten durch ihr Auftreten entscheidend an ihrer medialen Darstellung und ihrer Erscheinung als Militärheld mit. Diese Verbindung zwischen der Selbstdarstellung der Militärführer, den Medien und der Propaganda wird im vorliegenden Band näher untersucht.
