Pulmonary graphics have become a standard feature of present day mechanical ventilators. They are a valuable adjunct for patient management and can provide important information about patient response, patient-ventilator interaction, and clues to evolving pathophysiology. There is an educational void, however, with very little information available about understanding graphics, which the authors aim to bridge with this book. The book is conceived as a pocket atlas and will feature the side-by-side use of schematic figures and actual figures obtained from a ventilator graphic monitor, accompanied by succinct explanatory text. The key to interpreting pulmonary graphics is pattern recognition, which will be emphasized throughout and is lacking in all related works other than Dr. Donn s earlier book on the topic. The target audience includes health care providers working in neonatal intensive care or special care units; these include neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses, pediatric respiratory therapists, neonatal fellows, and pediatric residents.
