Modelling of Magmatic and Allied Processes

Modelling of magmatic and allied processes are essentially an integration of all information (field relations, petrography, phase equilibria relationships, mineralogy and geochemistry) of an igneous rock suit or province in order to simulate quantitative modelling based on physical and chemical rules describing various attributes of operative processes. Factors affecting the magmatic processes (magma generation, transport, crystallization, immiscibility, mingling, mixing and diffusion etc.) can be parameterized, and used to test several hypotheses originally framed on the basis of intelligent field and petrographic practices. Matching (or reproduction) of calculated magmatic trends with those of observed values is thus defined as petrogenetic (or geochemical) modelling of magmatic processes. During the last decades many improved methods and new techniques have evolved to model magmatic processes. This book presents an extensive range of state-of-the-art methods used in igneous petrology and geochemistry, contributed by experts in the field. It provides an overview to understand physical and chemical processes during magma evolution.
