Civil society organizations [CSOs] have played important role over the years in the disaster field. Starting from the traditional approach of response and relief, the emphasis has been gradually transferred to disaster risk reduction [DRR]. From international non-government organizations [NGOs] to national and local NGOs, all stakeholders have recognized the significance and need of community-based risk reduction, and in its different capacities, tried to link to the policy options at local and national level. However, there are a lot of issues that still remain untouched by the CSOs, and especially the local CSOs face different challenges on resources, both in terms of human, financial and technical issues. With this background, this book targets the important issue of role of CSOs in DRR, with specific focus on Asian region.
