Biological and Hormonal Therapies of Cancer

This volume presents selected new information concerning biological and hormonal therapies of cancer. Chapters on biologic therapy contain information on the role of interferon in the hematologic malignancies in solid tumors; vaccine therapies; cellular vaccine therapies; anti-idiotype approach and interleukin-2 in the therapy of solid tumors. §Chapters on hormonal therapy contain information on current uses of endocrine therapy in endometrial, breast and prostate cancer; hormonal strategies for the prevention of breast and endometrial cancer including information related to phytochemicals; the effects of tamoxifen on endometrium and estrogen receptor expression and regulation in human breast cancer. §Biologic and endocrine therapy represent major areas of cancer research interest. The advent of newer biologic therapies, including new antibody targeted treatments, and the use of biologics as tumor modulators to enhance the effects of other treatment regimens is an exploding area of research. Moreover, there is renewed interest in hormonal therapy of cancer, especially with regard to prevention and adjuvant therapy. It is expected that such therapies will continue to proliferate and eventually lead to further improvements in the treatment of cancer.
