This book focuses explicitly on interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy, which have gained ground in educational studies. Each chapter engages with the extant animal-focused education literature in environmental education and considers multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary approaches. Given that environmental education scholars and practitioners were some of the first to write about animals in education, this project firmly historicizes curriculum and pedagogy related to animals in education and provides solid grounding in the research literature. This book, therefore, takes these interdisciplinary questions about research epistemology and methodology and asks how such perspectives can be leveraged to produce curricula and pedagogy that give voice to animals, acknowledge that we can never "entirely know the subjective lives of animals", and allow students to explore the complex and sometimes exploitative ways in which our lives are intimately entangled with those of other animals at the local, regional, national and global levels.
