Two of the Abernathy family had careers as lawmen. The second Abernathy lived in modern times and grew up in Canada where he became a detective on the West Vancouver police department and received the famed Hercule Poirot trophy. Inspector Perry Abernathy was elevated to the position of Chief Constable in Nanaimo, a city on Vancouver Island.
