Social justice, R.W. Connell contends, is an inextricable part of any educational system, and democratic societies should give priority to the educational needs of the disadvantaged. R. W. Connell is Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He was 1991-92 Professor of Australian Studies at Harvard University, and before that, Foundation Professor of Sociology at Macquarie University in Sydney. He has published several books on educational issues, including "Making the Difference and Teachers' Work" as well as other books on society and politics, including "Rethinking Sex: Social Theory and Sexuality Research", co-edited with G.W. Dowsett (Temple).
