Diseases of the Nervous System

The study of the brain continues to expand and results continue to evolve our understanding of the basic diseases of the human nervous system. New tools, ranging from genome sequencing to non-invasive imaging along with public and private investment in biomedical research has been transformative in our understanding of nervous system diseases. This has also led to an explosion of published primary research articles on disease mechanisms. Diseases of the Nervous System will focus on the 14 most common neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions and will follow a common format for each, making each disease a stand-alone unit. In addition, one chapter will be devoted to discussion of emerging common concepts shared among these disorders. Finally, 3 chapters will provide a jump-off point for discussion of hot topics and controversial issues in current day neuroscience research including translational research, drug discovery and personalized medicine and ethics and neuroscience.
