Aldosen (D-Glucose, D-Mannose, L-Arabinose, n-Xylose u. a. ) reagieren in fI. Fluorwasserstoff in elektrophiler Reaktion mit aromatischen Systemen (Benzol, Toluol, Xylol, Anisol, Diphenyl, Diphenyläthan u. a. ). Die ersten Produkte sind Mono- und Di-arylaldit-derivate. Bei einem MoL-Verhältnis von Aldose: Kohlenwasserstoff wie 1:1 erhält man Polymere von sehr hohem Molekulargewicht. Bei einem überschuß des Kohlenwasserstoffs (z. B. 10:1) entstehen eine Reihe von Verbindungen, die nacheinander immer weniger Sauerstoff enthalten. Endprodukte sind carbocyclische Systeme und Kohlenwasserstoffe. Sie sind optisch aktiv. Einige von ihnen zeigen starke Fluoreszenz im UV. Die Zahl der Kohlenstoffatome der Aldosen, die in diese Produkte eingebaut werden, wird durch Verwendung von 14C-Zu
