Diese Studie greift die (im Kern der neueren Forschung stehende) Debatte um die erzählerische Perspektive des "Willehalm" Wolframs von Eschenbach wieder auf. Ausgehend von Mika Bals Theorie der narrativen Fokalisierung, befaßt sie sich (prinzipiell) mit der Interaktion von zwei Instanzen: Erzähler und Figur. Vor dem Hintergrund der zeitgenössischen Literaturpraxis treten die Figuren als dreidimensionale Charaktere vor, deren Stimmen ein Gespräch mit dem höchst subjektiven, fiktional geprägten Erzähler aufnehmen. Herausgearbeitet wird die Dynamik eines Textes, der über einen für die (damalige) volkssprachliche Literatur (völlig) neuen Sinngebungsprozeß verfügt.
