Die Studie bietet eine strukturalistisch orientierte, semantische Analyse des Lexempaares grad/gorod sowie seiner Derivationen im Altkirchenslavischen und Altrussischen. Sie basiert auf einem komplexen Modell sprachlicher Semantik, das nicht die Wortbedeutung, sondern einzelne Bedeutungselemente und deren kontextuelle Integration in den Mittelpunkt rückt. Die Untersuchung beinhaltet ein Lexikon des Wortnestes grad/gorod, das auf Übersetzungen von über 1000 Nachweisen in altkirchenslavischen und altrussischen Texten ins Deutsche beruht. Mit Hilfe dieser Daten sowie ihrer Spiegelung vor Erkenntnissen der Wortbildung und Kulturgeschichte werden allgemeine semantische Funktionen und Mechanismen der altrussischen Periode skizziert.
