Die Kathedralkapitel sind durch verschiedene Bischofswahlen im deutschsprachigen Raum Ende der achtziger Jahre Gegenstand öffentlichen Interesses geworden. Das wirft wieder einmal die Frage nach der Rolle dieser altehrwürdigen Institution innerhalb des Bistums auf. Der Codex Iuris Canonici, der wenige Jahre vor den genannten «Investiturstreitigkeiten» in Kraft getreten ist, hat auch das Recht der Domkapitel - wenigstens äußerlich - einschneidend verändert. Thema der vorliegenden Arbeit ist das jetzige Recht, wie es sich aus dem CIC/1983, dem einschlägigen Partikularrecht in Deutschland und Österreich sowie aus den neuen deutschen und österreichischen Statuten der Domkapitel ergibt.
